WORCESTER - The world-renowned Shanghai Quartet got together last night with the equally celebrated guitarist Eliot Fisk in Mechanics Hall. Quite expectedly, and to the delight of the audience of about 500, the musicians' efforts produced a stellar concert.
Consisting of violinists Weigang Li and Yiwen Jiang, violist Honggang Li and cellist James Wilson, the Shanghai Quartet was formed at the Shanghai Conservatory in 1983, and made its New York debut at Town Hall in 1987. For the past several seasons, the ensemble has been busy recording and performing throughout the United States and abroad. Currently, the quartet is engaged as Ensemble-in-Residence at the University of Richmond, Virginia.
