Cette thèse traite de quatre ceuvres qui évoquent le mythe de Don Juan. La premiére œuvre, Le Trompeur de Séville , écrite par Tirso de Molina en 1630 crée le personnage qui donnera naissance au mythe. Ce premier Don Juan fut créé en réponse à une société que l'auteur considérait comme immorale. Le personnage de Don Juan se transforme dans chacune des versions inspirées de l'original. Écrit en 1665, le Dom Juan de Molière refléte plusieurs éléments de la société de l'époque, idées et comportements dont l'auteur se moque. Vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle, Mozart et son librettiste Da Ponte ont créé l'inoubliable Don Giovanni qui cristallise le mythe et qui marque le commencement de la libération des femmes dans le mythe de Don Juan. Au XX e siècle, la femme devient enfin sujet, et en ce faisant elle libère Don Juan dans une version féministe du mythe, Ariane et Don Juan ou le Désastre, créée par Claire Lejeune, en 1997. Ces transformations du mythe à travers les siècles nous amènent en conclusion à poser la question de la viabilité du mythe de Don Juan pour le XXI e siècle.

This thesis deals with four works that evoke the myth of Don Juan. The first work, The Deceiver of Seville, written by Tirso de Molina in 1630 creates the character that will give birth to the myth. This first Don Juan was created in response to a society that the author considered immoral. The character of Don Juan transforms in each of the versions inspired by the original. Written in 1665, Molière's Dom Juan reflects several elements of the society of the time, ideas and behaviors that the author makes fun of. Towards the end of the 18th century, Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte created the unforgettable Don Giovanni which crystallizes the myth and marks the beginning of the liberation of women in the myth of Don Juan. In the 20th century, woman finally became a subject, and in doing so she freed Don Juan in a feminist version of the myth, Ariane et Don Juan ou le Désastre, created by Claire Lejeune in 1997. These transformations of the myth through the centuries lead us in conclusion to ask the question of the viability of the myth of Don Juan for the 21st century.
