Abstract
While great strides have been made in the exposure of and fight against intimate partner abuse there is still much work to be done with respect to violence among Aboriginal intimates in Canada. This thesis explores the experiences of Aboriginal women with respect to intimate partner abuse. Twelve Aboriginal women were asked to tell their stories via semi-structured in-depth interviews and in doing so offer insight into the unique aspects of the journey into and out of an abusive relationship. Their stories offer inspiration to those who may be trying to escape the nightmare that is abuse and while portions of their stories echoed previous research findings the most compelling aspects of their stories relates to both their physical location, that is, on or off reserve and the role of Aboriginal culture.
