Age: 38

Company: Wiseway Inc.

Title: President

Favorite vacation: Somewhere you can scuba dive, like Cozumel

Favorite place: Ryland Heights, Ky.

A late-night conversation with his father back in 1988 persuaded John Cain to leave a finance career in Connecticut with Procter & Gamble and come back home to help run the family business, Wiseway Inc.

Cain said that deep down, he always knew that he'd be happiest at the helm of Florence-based Wiseway, a plumbing and electrical supply firm his father founded in 1972.

"That's something you grow to appreciate the older you get," he said.

Cain was named president of the company in 1994. He puts in long hours, getting to work around 4:30-5 a.m., staying until 6 p.m, and working most Saturdays. He also serves on a number of community organizations and was a member of the Kentucky Leadership Class of 2002.

He said he is working to balance his work and community commitments with spending more time with his wife, Carla, and four daughters, Addison, 9, Hannah, 7, Caroline, 4, and Mary Jacqueline, 1.

"Family values is something that was instilled in me growing up," he said. "That is the largest advantage that a small business like ours has, the ability to be like a family."
