Abstract

This study was initiated to describe students' understanding of the purpose for using graphical representations to communicate their interpretation of a data set. Specifically, this research investigated how high school students used statistical literacy to justify the purpose of a graph, to give appropriate situations or data sets for a specific graph, and to select a graph that best represented the argument that they wanted to convey from the data.
