Abstract

María del Socorro Téllez López (1927), a contemporary Spanish author and known worldwide under the pseudonym Corin Tellado, elaborates in her work a connection between the theme of love and sociocultural conditions. Some of his novels have been published as fotonovelas and others have been made into television and movies.

Tellado's novels show the historical subordination of women, their minority, their socioeconomic dependence and the emotional detriment they suffer, due to the fact that women try to adapt to sociocultural situations that are out of their control.

Tellado's narrative simultaneously accepts and rejects the notions that have historically structured the genre in which she writes. Tellado's works are organized around the idea that emotional and psychological needs, daily life and family relationships are a core of literary significance.

The reading of Tellado's works fulfills a double objective. First, as an activity, it captivates the attention of its readers, and second, it offers them the opportunity to repudiate the environment that surrounds them, which is associated with responsibilities that are strongly oppressive and sometimes too hard to bear.
