Abstract

Motivated by a desire to clarify the place and function of the imagination within the Critique of Pure Reason, this dissertation includes, in its first part, a comparative study of the two editions of the transcendental deduction, while the second part focuses on the presentation of the imagination contained in the chapter on transcendental schematism. In addition to responding to this desire for clarification, the paralleling of these two sections of the C. R. P. makes it possible to comment on the degree of coherence of the two editions of the trancendantal deduction and to outline the role that schematism may have played in the rewriting of this chapter.
