Abstract

The present research demonstrates the effectiveness of a training process for number discrimination in an autistic preschool child. The theoretical framework is the paradigmatic behaviorism of Staats (1963, 1968, 1986). The training process uses the Staats apparatus (1968) and the training equipment developed by Leduc, Dussault and David (1991). This training is carried out by the mother in the family home. The results demonstrate that the training process allows learning to discriminate numbers and develops the attention necessary for other cognitive learning.
