Organic hourglass inclusions: A review of past and recent work and a student experiment

Abstract (Summary)

The history and utility of organic hourglass inclusions are presented, and a recipe for synthesizing of a particular system (K2SO4 containing acid fuchsin) is described. The experiment can be performed easily in a general chemistry laboratory, and students can take "jewels" away afterward.
