Battle or Massacre? It All Depends on Who Writes the History
Traditionally, history books have been the story of the white males written by white males. Men's experiences (war and politics) have been highlighted in the history textbooks, and the experiences of women and minorities have been minimized. In an attempt to be more inclusive, often in response to protests from the groups that have been left out, textbooks authors have "added groups." Too often, however, this has involved merely adding a paragraph or two as an aside after a topic has been covered.
