Following their bibliography of Eritrea (vol. 181) the 190th volume in Clio's World Bibliographical Series covers Western Sahara. The unresolved fate of Spain's dusty colony remains a scabby, unfinished footnote to Africa's colonial agenda. Feeble external remedies, most recently the shambolic and pusillanimous UN referendum mission, have failed to heal the wound opened on Franco's deathbed. The botched post-colonial carve-up between Morocco and Mauritania bequeathed a festering conflict, largely ignored by all but the protagonists. Despite diplomatic indifference, this bibliography nevertheless identifies over 600 texts on Western Sahara and its conflict in the English language alone.
