This dissertation explores the influence of demographic transition on economic growth from a theoretical perspective. Three essays are included in this dissertation. The first essay studies the effects of demographic change on economic growth in Taiwan in 1956-2004. The second essay considers the three possible channels in which demographic transition affects economic growth and investigates the interaction between technological progress and demographic change. The last essay explores the impacts of the imposition of a one-child policy on economic growth and demonstrates the importance of heterogeneous individuals when analyzing population policies.
