Abstract
Two novellas, Get and Herd, exploring family: its failings; its attempts at redemption; its construction within, and outside of, blood ties. Both address matrilineal inheritances---gestures, desires and obsessions---that characters possess, whether or not they consciously understand or acknowledge this possession. The work is an exploration of narrative and voice, and the ways in which these tools can be used to create a whole feeling at the finish rather than, perhaps, a whole story with characters and interactions whose every detail has been revealed.
