Preventing Pressure Ulcers Could Save Millions in Health Care Costs
The Canadian Association of Wound Care recently revealed the results of a groundbreaking Pressure Ulcer Awareness Pilot program, conducted from April through September 2006. The project ran in five hospitals and concluded that a 100-bed facility with a pressure ulcer prevalence of 25% (the national average) could save between $239,000 and $1.2 million annually simply by reducing pressure ulcer prevalence by 35%.
