Abstract

Cette recherche vise à comprendre certains aspects de la transmission des savoirs oraux dans les institutions scolaires du Nunavut.

À partir d'entrevues réalisées à Arviat, je décris les nombreuses initiatives visant le développement d'un système scolaire respectueux des savoirs et des valeurs inuit et je présente les différentes perspectives inuit sur la transmission des savoirs oraux dans le contexte contemporain.

Malgré des contradictions fondamentales entre les conceptions éducatives inuit et celles du milieu scolaire, les Arviatmiut parviennent à développer avec succès la transmission des savoirs oraux dans les écoles primaire et secondaire. Au cours des dernières années, l'intégration croissante des savoirs et des valeurs inuit dans les institutions a contribué à l'amélioration de la communication intergénérationnelle et à une revalorisation des traditions orales au sein de la communauté. Cependant, l'efficacité de cette transmission et ses résultats positifs sont fortement accrus lorsque l'apprentissage des savoirs oraux a lieu dans la toundra.

This research aims to understand certain aspects of the transmission of oral knowledge in educational institutions in Nunavut.

Based on interviews conducted in Arviat, I describe the numerous initiatives aimed at the development of a school system respectful of Inuit knowledge and values and I present the different Inuit perspectives on the transmission of oral knowledge in the contemporary context.

Despite fundamental contradictions between Inuit educational concepts and those of the school environment, the Arviatmiut manage to successfully develop the transmission of oral knowledge in primary and secondary schools. In recent years, the growing integration of Inuit knowledge and values into institutions has contributed to the improvement of intergenerational communication and a revaluation of oral traditions within the community. However, the effectiveness of this transmission and its positive results are greatly increased when the learning of oral knowledge takes place in the tundra.
