Recent realistic fiction for kindergarten through ninth grade set in the second half of the twentieth century in the United States is inclusive of all Americans and stresses human triumphs over adversities, accentuating mending, healing, and building better lives. This article is the second of two: the first, published in the January 2000 issue of Book Links, focused on fiction set in the first half of the twentieth century.
