Political regimes and foreign aid: How aid affects growth and democratization
by Wright, Joseph, Ph.D., University of California, Los Angeles, 2007 , 273 pages; AAT 3295770

Abstract (Summary)

This dissertation explains how political regimes affect the use of foreign aid in recipient countries, and how aid influences democratization. The first three chapters analyze how domestic political institutions, in both dictatorships and democracies, provide aid recipients with incentives over how they use aid to promote economic growth. The second part of the dissertation looks at whether foreign aid keeps dictators in power and how aid can be used to promote democratization.
