JAMES NEYER

Vice President of Real Estate Development Al Neyer Inc.

Age: 39

Since joining his family's business three years ago, James Neyer has made a significant impact on Al Neyer Inc.'s development projects.

Al Neyer Inc.'s history dates back to 1894. It built its first industrial park in 1963 and has since designed, developed and built 15 commercial developments. Now in the hands of the third and fourth generations of the Neyer family, the company has 13 more developments underway across Greater Cincinnati.

James Neyer has actively led nearly 2 million square feet of new development for the company, including the Pfeiffer Woods Executive Center, U.S. Financial Life Center and Champion Window & Enclosures' new campus. His goal is to keep dig growth coming.

"I want to continue on the path we've set over the last couple years, including developing larger and more creative projects, maintaining our ownership position and branching the business outside the Cincinnati area," he said.

Neyer received his degree in civil engineering from Marquette University in 1984. He started his career with Opus Corp., a national design/build developer based in Minneapolis. He rose to the position of director of real estate development and remained with the firm until 1997, when he returned to Cincinnati.

"I worked in another family-owned business, but a larger corporation that didn't have the sense of family involvement," Neyer said of his return to Cincinnati. "It is a challenge to be in a closer environment. I'm probably a bigger fish in a smaller pond."

In addition to coaching a number of his children's sports teams, Neyer serves on the board of directors at the Ohio Valley Oral School.

His community involvement also includes a number of local professional organizations. His affiliations include the Warren County Progress Council, Ohio Valley Development Council, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the Urban Land Institute and the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Real Estate Advisory Committee.
