Authentication Error 1010

What happened?

ProQuest was unable to give you access because ProQuest could not recognize the web site you came from. The URL you entered or the link you followed to ProQuest requires that we check for a valid referring URL to authenticate you. ProQuest has detected your referring URL as [].

Why?

The web address you entered or link you clicked on requires ProQuest to use a specific form of authentication called Referring URL. This process checks what web page you came from to connect to ProQuest. This error means we were unable to verify the page you linked to ProQuest from as an authenticated site.

This may occur because you entered the web address into your browser directly, which means you did not come from a specific page, and therefore ProQuest could not authenticate you.

It could also mean that the security software on your computer does not allow us to see the web site you came from.

What should you do?

Students & library patrons
  • Check with your library reference desk or help desk for instructions or login information on connecting remotely to ProQuest.
  • You could try clicking on the link to ProQuest directly from the library or institution web page or from the page where you got the web address for ProQuest.
  • If you have a ProQuest account name and password, click here to reach the login form, and bookmark that page to prevent this error from coming up again.
  • If you have an Athens username and password to log on to ProQuest, click here to reach the Athens login page.
  • If you have an Shibboleth username and password to log on to ProQuest, use the Shibboleth login page.
  • If you have an internet security or privacy program installed on your computer, you may need to adjust its settings. See instructions for configuring security programs to work with ProQuest.
