Document Formats

Depending on the publisher, documents in ProQuest are available in the following possible formats:

Citation/Abstract
Bibliographic information and summary of the document.

Citation with images
CINAHL® citation with an "Images" which includes a link to each image file available.

Full Text:
Citation, abstract and complete document text.

Text+Graphics:
Citation, abstract, and complete document text, along with photographs, illustrations, figures, charts, or other images.

Page Image - PDF:
High-resolution scanned images of newspaper pages in Portable Document Format (PDF). In the Historical Newspapers collection, this is a high-resolution image of the entire newspaper page.

Local Holdings:
Others resources not available directly through ProQuest.

Article Image - PDF:
Scanned images of articles in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Full Text - PDF:
Either scanned images of documents in Portable Document Format (PDF) or "native" PDF documents created from source files.

Page Map:
Low-resolution scanned images of newspaper pages used to browse an issue of a newspaper. Historical newspapers only.

Preview (PDF):
Shows a preview of the first few pages of a dissertation or thesis, in PDF format. ProQuest Dissertations and Theses only.

Preview (thumbnail images):
Provides a thumb-nail scanned image of the first 24 pages of the document, letting the user quickly locate, enlarge and view pages of interest. ProQuest Dissertations and Theses only.

Order a copy:
Lists the document formats available for purchase, including electronic PDF, Unbound Paper Copy, Softcover Paper Copy, Hardcover Paper Copy, 35mm Roll Microfilm, and Microfiche. ProQuest Dissertations and Theses only.

Document:
Document in Word (.doc, .dot, .rtf, etc) format.

Presentation:
Presentation document files (.ppt, .pps, etc.).

Spreadsheet:
Spreadsheet files (.xls, etc.)..

Video:
Full text document view including an in-line video player.

Video download (file type, file size) E.g. Video download (.mpeg, 25 MB):
Alternate video formats for download (.mpeg, .wmv, etc.), usually available on the document view page.

To view PDF documents, you need Adobe® Reader® installed on your system. If you do not have it, you can download Adobe Reader for free.
