Look Up Classification CodesClassification codes let you search business-targeted databases such as ABI/INFORM, Banking Information Source, and ABI/INFORM Dateline. The classification codes segment these databases into broad topical areas. When you use the codes with search words, classification codes are a fast way to precisely target a search by topic, industry or market, geographical area, or document type. You can quickly add classification codes to your search by using the Look up classifications link.
Using the Look up classification codes to Focus Your SearchProQuest gives you an easy way to focus your search within specific industries by using the Look up classification codes link. To add a specific industry to your search from a Basic Search or Advanced Search:
Using Classification Codes to Find DocumentsYou should use the most specific code possible. Remember, the codes don't cascade. If you enter cc(9170), your search will only find that code (Non-US) and won't find any of the codes below it. If you want to broaden the search to include multiple codes, you need to use the truncation character. For example, to find all rules, regulations, and legislation related to pension plans, you would search for su(pension plans) AND cc(43*). To enter Classification codes using the truncation character, you will need to enter the search values using the mnemonic, and not through the Look up Classification codes window.
