Create Your Bibliography to Email, Print, or Download

Entries in the bibliography include basic formatting for five broad categories of publication: scholarly journals, magazines and trade publications, newspapers, dissertations, and books. You may need to include further information for special types of documents. For example, you might need to add information on the work being reviewed for a review document. In addition, some features of each format cannot be reproduced automatically (in particular, author name and date formats). You can use the templates provided for each citation style below to verify and correct the format of the generated document citations for the five main publication types in ProQuest.

You can create a bibliography for the documents you have added to your list. You can then:

Follow these steps to create your bibliography:

  1. Click the Create your bibliography to email, print or download link.
  2. You see the Create Your Bibliography page. Make the appropriate selections on this form.
  3. If you want to email the bibliography:
  • Click Email.
  • You see the Email Bibliography page. Make the appropriate selections on this page.
  • Click Send Email. A note appears confirming that your email has been sent.
  1. If you want to print the bibliography:
  • Click Print.
  • You see the Print Bibliography page, and the print dialog will automatically open. Click Print.
  1. If you want to download the bibliography:
  • Click Download. You see the Bibliography page.
  • Click Save As on your browser’s file menu.
  • Navigate to the location you want to save the page.
  • Enter a file name for your page.
  • Click Save.

On the My Research page, check the box next to each document you want to include in the bibliography.

Click the Create your bibliography to email, print, or download link.
You see the Print Your Bibliography page.

  1. Under Format, select whether to print only the citations, or the document summaries (which include both the citation and abstract).
  2. Under Citation style, select the citation format you want to use:
  1. Click Print.
You will see a window displaying your citations, and a print dialog. You can use the print dialog to print, or copy and paste the citations into another document.

Some computers do not provide access to a printer. If you are using a computer in a public building, such as a library or school, and you have trouble printing, ask a librarian for help.

ProQuest Standard

When you select this option, your citations will print as they appear in the ProQuest interface.

Example:

The 75-year-old killer app
Geoffrey Colvin. Fortune. New York: Oct 14, 2002. 146(7), 76.

AMA Citation Style

Prints according to the American Medical Association’s guidelines for citing electronic resources. For more information see the AMA site.

Use the templates and notes below to verify and correct the formatting of your document citations for the main publication types in ProQuest. In particular, the format of author names and publication dates in individual citations is likely to need further adjustment.

References at the end of a medical paper should be numbered in the order cited in the text.

Author initials are not followed by a period. Multiple initials should appear with no separation (for example, Other AN).

Scholarly journals:

Ref_no. author1_last_name author1_initials, author2+_last_name author2+_initials. document_title. journal_title [serial online]. pub_year;volume_number:page_numbers. Available from: database_name. Accessed date_accessed, Document ID: document_ID.

The unabbreviated publication month should be included for journals with non-continuous pagination throughout a volume in the format: pub_month pub_year.

Names of medical journals must be abbreviated according to the National Library of Medicine’s Index Medicus (see the NLM site).

Example:
1. Kemp JP, Kemp JA. Management of asthma in children. Am Fam Physician [serial online]. 2001;63:1341-8, 1353-4. Available from: ProQuest Central. Accessed December 1, 2003. Document ID: 75117119.

Books, Pamphlets:

Ref_no. author/editor1_last_name author/editor1_initials, author/editor2+_last_name author/editor2+_initials. book/pamphlet_title. Edition_number/name. Place_of_publication: Publisher_name; publication_year. Available from: database_name. Accessed date_accessed, Document ID: document_ID.

A single editor name should be followed by , ed., for multiple names the last editor should followed by , eds.

Edition number is only relevant to certain types of work -- i.e. a single book in a multi-edition work.

Example:
1. Van Raalte JL, Brewer BW, eds. Exploring Sport and Exercise Psychology. 2nd ed. Washington, D.C.: American Psychological Association; 2002. Available from: ProQuest Central. Accessed December 1, 2003. Document ID: 987290071.

Book Chapters:

Ref_no. chapter_author1_last_name chapter_author1_initials, chapter_author2+_last_name chapter_author2+_initials. chapter_title. In: book_editor1_last_name book_editor1_initials, book_editor2+_last_name book_editor2+_initials. book_title. Edition_number. Place_of_publication: Publisher_name; publication_year:page_number(s)_of_chapter. Available from: database_name. Accessed date_accessed, Document ID: document_ID.

A single editor name should be followed by , ed., for multiple names the last editor should followed by , eds.

Edition number is only relevant to certain types of work -- i.e. a single book in a multi-edition work.

Example:
1. Morgan WP. Hypnosis in sport and exercise psychology. In: Van Raalte JL, Brewer BW, eds. Exploring Sport and Exercise Psychology. 2nd ed. Washington, D.C.: American Psychological Association; 2002:151-180. Available from: ProQuest Central. Accessed December 1, 2003. Document ID: 987290171.

The day should be included in the publication date for weekly magazines in the format: pub_month_unabbreviated pub_day, pub_year.

Example:
1. Andrew KP. Relative relevance. Computers In Libraries [serial online]. October 2003;23:35-37. Available from: ProQuest Central. Accessed December 2, 2003. Document ID: 425523591.
