Working with Adobe Reader

To view PDF documents, you need Adobe® Reader® installed on your system. If you do not have it, you can download Adobe Reader for free.

Adobe Reader provides you with several useful features that are enabled in ProQuest Historical Newspapers, which can help you work with your documents.

Unfortunately, the Find feature does not work with the Page Images and document Images in ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

Zoom In tool

This tool appears as a magnifying glass icon. It lets you quickly zoom in or out on a specific area. To use, click on the tool and click an area of the image. Keep clicking until the image is the size you want. To zoom out, click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the Zoom In tool and select the Zoom Out tool.

Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons

These appear on either side of the Resize drop-down Menu, appearing as a + sign and a - sign. Click on the appropriate button to make the entire image larger or smaller.

Resize drop-down menu

This tool appears as a drop-down menu between the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons. Click the drop-down arrow and select a percentage to immediately increase or decrease the size, or type a percentage directly into the box.

Graphics Select Tool

You can use this tool to select any area of the image you want to copy or printing.

Disk Icon

Click this tool to save the PDF file to hard drive or disk.
